Questions
What clients ask us first
If your question isn't here, call the office. A short question usually gets a short answer.
Which partner will handle my matter?
Maeve Holt handles most purchases and sales, Inés Treviño leases and evictions, and Judith Whitford title problems, association disputes and boundaries. When a matter crosses lines, they work it together.
How do you charge?
Closings and document work have a set fee, quoted in writing before we start. Disputes and court cases are billed by the hour, and we'll estimate the range at the first meeting. Recording fees, surveys and title charges are separate and paid at closing.
Isn't the title company enough?
A title company insures the title and handles the money for everyone in the deal. It can't advise you. We read the contract and title documents for you alone.
When should I call?
As early as you can: before you sign a purchase contract, before you list, before you send a tenant a notice, before you answer an association. Early calls are shorter and cost less.
Do you handle commercial property?
Small commercial leases and the sale of a building with a few units, yes. Larger commercial developments we refer to firms that do that work every day.
Can we meet in Spanish?
Yes. Inés Treviño meets in Spanish, and our office staff can help schedule in either language.
Can I close or sign from out of town?
Usually. We can arrange a mail-away signing with a notary near you and go through the documents with you by phone or video first.
What should I bring to the first meeting?
The documents you have: a contract, a lease, a letter, a deed, a survey. If something is missing, we can usually find it in the county records.
